Tutorial Sessions

There are regularly scheduled tutorial sessions for all classes at Sprayberry. Here are the times for chemistry and physics:

Physics: Every Tuesday 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., by Mr. Ciaccio in the science computer lab

Chemistry: Every Monday and Wednesday afternoon, by Mrs. Wells in room 408

My help sessions are by appointment. Once an appointment has been made I post it on the calendar.

I won’t be offended if you go to another teacher for help. Sometimes hearing the same thing from a different source causes something to click!

Bring work!

Tutorial sessions are designed to help you, not reteach something you should have been doing all along. (i.e., don’t expect to sleep in class or not do your work and get help later)

Acceleration of Space Shuttle

Here’s a question for you:

It takes the space shuttle 8 minutes to reach an orbital speed of 17,000 mph. What is the acceleration of the shuttle in miles per hour per second?

Hey, wait! Isn’t there a test tomorrow…?

Naught?

In science, we use subscripts to describe things. We might say vfinal which means final speed. The abbreviation is vf

Another common one is “inital speed”, which is written as v0
You pronounce that one “V Naught”. So what is “Naught”?

According to this page:

Naught: The British word for “zero.” It is often used to indicate 0 subscripts, so a0 would be spoken as “a naught.”

And now you know!
