    Rocket Boys

I found some web pages on Homer Hickam, the author of the book Rocket Boys which turned into the movie October Sky.

Project Hint: The last question on the movie questions is a great example of one type of calculation you can do on your model project! (”How high did my rocket go?” or “How far did my egg fall?”)

    Organic Bonus

Here’s a great bonus on this Friday’s chemistry test. It’s an organic molecule that isn’t carbon based. What is it?

    Need a hint?
If I gave you a hint, there wouldn’t be much fun on this page, would there?
If I gave you a hint, I’d be revealing my html source, wouldn’t I?

Here is an email from Mrs. Robinson (math)

    What day, I say?

    Friday, March 2nd!

    Do you have the time?
    Do you like to rhyme?
Have you ever heard a lime rhyme?
There is a girl, her name is Clementine, that likes to eat lime,
but she eats nine at at time.
    (She thinks it’s divine!)
Clementine can buy nine limes at a time, and it only costs a dime!

So… do you have the time?
Did you ask the goose or the moose?
Next Friday the birthday of Dr Seuss!
Bring your book so we can hang loose!
We’ll hang loose and read like good little mongoose.

We’ll sit and read, but not on the hay,
and have a wicked great day!
But this day, I say, don’t sit in the hay next to Jay.
    (He’s the one wearing gray.)

    Do you like lox?
    Do you like to box?
Do you like to box Gox?
You can eat your lox, but don’t bring your Gox.
    (and please wear your socks)

I do not like to read in the rain
I do not like to read on a train
I do not like to read in a box
I will not read with a fox
But I will read under the backward clock!

This is the day for your project book check
bring some eats but leave not a fleck.
Do you have your book? You better check.
    (It’s a grade, you know.)

    On a related note…

I saw these paintings in an art gallery at Laguna Beach this weekend. Apparently Dr Seuss used to paint! I snapped this picture with my cell phone through the window (sorry about the quality). The painting in the upper right was priced at $16,000 and the lower left painting was $2,300! (I couldn’t see the other prices through the window)

    A new Nova!

A “new star” has erupted below Antares. It brightened to about magnitude 3.9 and has now started fading. You can catch Nova Scorpii 2007 in the south-southeast before the first morning light. Make it a pre-dawn adventure!
