Fourth Pheriod Physics Fiasco

Yes, we had a bit of what I like to call an “event” during fourth period today. Remember: cleaning supplies and electrical panels do not mix. So we missed class today waiting for someone to reset the fire alarm. No test? Yeah, right.

Here’s how it affects the fourth period folks:

  1. I gave you the chapter 30-31 take home test and scantrons before you left today, just like 3rd period.
  2. I gave you back your chapter 27 & 29 homework packets so you can study for the test on Monday.
  3. Yes, I said the test will be Monday.
  4. The take-home test is due Monday at the tardy bell.
  5. Your homework packet for ch 27 & 29 is due Monday at the tardy bell too.

Third period:
You already have the take-home test, so turn it in Monday as planned (just as 4th period will be doing).

Have a good weekend!

Death Ray

Do you know Ray Tracing?

Ancient Greek and Roman historians recorded that during the siege of Syracuse in 212 BC, Archimedes (a notably smart person) constructed a burning glass to set the Roman warships, anchored within bow and arrow range, afire.

Mythbusters tried (and failed) - here is a group of M.I.T. engineering students who tried it too.

What grade do I need on my final?

In answer to the age-old question “What grade do I need on my final?”, I have the following:

Use one of these gradesheets to calculate your grade in the class right now. Use i-Parent to get your individual grades if you haven’t been keeping up. E-mail me and ask (nicely) for a grade printout if you don’t have access to i-Parent. You can use this gradesheet to calculate hypothetical grades too! They’re both in MS-Word format so you can edit as needed. Of course, I’d like to point out that you do not need Microsoft Word to read/edit these. Use Google Documents online for free!
gradesheet-chemistry.doc
gradesheet-physics.doc

Click here to see a formula to figure out what grade you need to get on the final exam. (This works for any weighted-system with a final exam equal to 10% of the total grade. I made a document somewhere that outlines how to calculate this for other percentages. I’ll add a comment to this post once I find and post it so you can use it for other classes.)
